Teena here is the report...Sorry it was late, but McKenna has a big project due on Wed. and I had to spend the day getting it done.

Had Kathie and my Mom sleep over, we had fun just talking and going over the game plan for the next day.  I took my mom out that night and showed her the course so she could prepare how she was going to run.

We planned on getting up around 5:30, but my husband went hunting at 5:00 so I was up then.  I stayed in bed and tried to sleep, but not much of that.

Kathie and I had talked and decided to run this race in 1:59.  Our goal was to break 2 hours.  We knew it was going to be a tough course, so we decided just to run as a good training run.

We saw smooth and Maynard at the start and lined up with Smooth with the idea to stay with her.  Boy she flew out of the shoot and Kathie and I didn't want to start with a pace like that.  We kept her in our sights until about mile 6 when she really pulled away at the hill.  She had a great run.

I felt pretty good on this run.  Could really feel the hills and wish I could have handled them a little better.  About mile 10 I stopped a girl with the number "2".  I decided I was going to catch her.  Started to get closer and closer.  By mile 12 I had finally caught her and thought I could lose her and start making some distance.  However, she had something different in mind.  I could hear her right behind me the whole last mile.  with about .2 left I decided to pick up the pace to try and pull away.  We started to get closer to the finish and she had a lot of family cheering her on. I could she was close by the way they were yelling.  With the finish in sight I caught a glimps of her trying to sprint by.  I put it in 2nd gear and sprinted to the end to hold her off.  She looked at me and told me thanks for pushing her to the end and I returned the thanks to her.

I think the run went very well, but didn't give me the confidence I was looking for to help me BQ at SGM.  I was hoping that a 2 hour pace would have felt easier.

After the race Kathie, Mom, Maynard and I tried to win some fun prizes.  I won some socks and my mom won a new Cool Pix Camera.  I swear she is one lucky woman.

As a side note.  My mom took first in her age group (she was the only one who ran), but she would have taken 1st in the age group below her and 3rd in the group below that.  She has really done well with her 5K's

WTG KIMMY!!! You beat your goal. Sounds like it wasn't an easy course either. Hard to compare that to your BQ attempt at SG. You should be happy with hitting your goal and finishing strong. You got to love that.
